Open-face helmet template

A seventies-style jet helmet with snap studs at the brow and a bubble shield. The shield is shown in light grey so the painted dome stays clear.

One A4 landscape sheet with all five views at the same scale. Outlines are bold enough to colour inside; the visor, trim and fittings are light grey.

Design tips

Designing a open-face helmet

01

Work with the dome

An open-face helmet is mostly one smooth dome. A single stripe, or a pair, over the crown from front to back is the classic look.

02

Keep the studs clear

The snap studs at the brow hold a shield or a peak. Fine detail around them gets covered or chipped.

03

Band the bottom edge

A contrasting band round the lower edge, with the rest kept simple, suits the period style.

04

Use the back view

The back is a large, plain shape: a good place for a name, a number or a flag.

Design it in 3D

Open this open-face helmet in the editor and paint it on flat views like the template. Every stripe and number wraps onto the 3D shell as you draw, and you can share the result with one link.
